PEI's Smith wins Superstore Monctonian Challenge

Tyler Smith (Charlottetown, PEI) wins the Superstore Monctonian Challenge, defeating Stuart Thompson (Halifax, NS) 6-0 at Curl Moncton. Smith takes home the $2,000CDN first place cheque along with 15.000 world ranking points, while Thompson receives $1,600CDN and 11.000 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Smith opened the scoring stealing 1 in the first end, added another steal of 2 in the second end for the 3-0 lead. For Thompson, a blank in the third end was their highlight as they appeared to right the ship, though Smith stole 3 in the fourth end for the early handshakes.

In the semifinals, Smith defeated James Grattan of Oromocto 6-3 and Thompson defeated Matthew Manuel of Halifax 7-2. Manuel and Grattan earned $1,200CDN and 8.500 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Smith defeated Owen Purcell of Halifax 5-4 and Thompson defeated Bryce Everist of Halifax 7-3.
