Nyman wins Sask Curling Tour Moose Jaw


Fredrik Nyman (Solleftea, Sweden) wins the Sask Curling Tour Moose Jaw, defeating Scott Manners (Lloydminster) 6-5 at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre in Saskatchewan.

Nyman with Patric Mabergs at third, Simon Olofsson and Johannes Patz on the front end becomes the latest International squad to win on Canadian soil this year. Nyman takes home the $1,720CDN first place cheque along with 18.750 world ranking points moving the young Swedish foursome into 28th overall on the WCF World Team Rankings.

Starting with hammer, Nyman scored 1 in the first end, then forced Manners to a single in the second end. Nyman broken open the game scoring 4 in the third end, then forcing Manners to a single in the fourth end giving Nymany the hammer and a convincing 5-2 lead at the half-way break. Nyman and Manners traded singles in the fifth and sixth end, with Manners adding steals in the seventh and eighth end, though falling just short and giving Nyman the win by a score of 6-5.

In the semifinals, Nyman defeated Saskatoon's Michael Carss 6-5 and Manners defeated Saskatoon's Jason Jacobson 6-4. Jacobson and Carss earned $990CDN and 10.625 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Nyman defeated Brandon Zuravloff of Canoro, 5-1, while Jacobson won 9-2 over Regina's Josh Bryden.

Nyman finished 2-1 in the 13 team modified double knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Nyman lost 6-4 to Saskatoon's Logan Ede, then responded with an 8-4 win over Dustin Woloschuk (Regina, SK). Advancing to the B-Qualifier game, Nyman won 7-2 against Jeff Hartung (Langenburg, SK) to book their place into the playoff round.
