Koe Wins Alberta Boston Pizza Cup

ENOCH, AB - Calgary's Kevin Koe won 6-5 over Brendan Bottcher (Calgary) in the Boston Pizza Cup Final.

With Alberta-rookie Tyler Tardi at third holding the broom, Koe watched front-end Bradley Thiessen and Karrick Martin sweep home his extra-point draw for the come-from-behind win at River Cree Twin Rinks at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alberta.

Koe scored the first deuce of the game in the fourth end, after forcing Bottcher to a single in the third end.

After the teams traded deuces in the fourth and fifth end, Koe gained the advantage by forcing Bottcher to a single point in the eighth end.

Holding hammer in a tie game, Bottcher put forward a strong attack, forcing Koe into a tough hit, and stealing one to take back the lead.

The final end had Koe tight on time (as usual), with half shots giving Bottcher the positional advantage. It was Tardi's last rock, where a runback and roll pushed the game into Koe's corner.

Bottcher made the angle-runback with his first shot of the end, though it opened the middle for Koe to draw around.

Bottcher left with another runback, this time sticking the corner guard onto shot stone, leaving Koe the draw for two and the win.

Bottcher entered the final undefeated at 4-0, qualifying through the A-Event in the 12-team triple knockout bracket, then winning 6-5 over Koe in the Page 1v2 game to advance to the Final

The loss dropped Koe into the semifinal, where they defeated Calgary's Aaron Sluchinski 6-2.

In their opening game, Koe lost 6-5 to Daylan Vavrek, dropping into the B-Event, then responded with a 10-6 win over Warren Cross (Edmonton, AB). Koe won 8-4 against Karsten Sturmay of St. Albert, then won 8-7 against Sluchinski to advance to the B-Qualifier where they 6-5 against Ryan Jacques (Edmonton, AB) to advance to the playoff round.

Koe will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ontario, held March 3-12 at Budweiser Gardens. Bottcher as Wild Card 1 and Sturmay as Wild Card 3 will join Koe in London in the quest to win a Canadian Championship title.
