Colton Flasch wins College Clean Restoration Curling Classic


Colton Flasch (Saskatoon, SK) wins the College Clean Restoration Curling Classic, defeating Chang-Min Kim (Uiseong, KOR) 4-3 at the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon, Canada. Flasch with Kevin Marsh at third with Daniel Marsh and Trent Knapp on the front end take home the $9,000CDN first place cheque along with 53.776 world ranking points, while Kim receives $6,000CDN and 42.253 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Flasch blanked the first end, got on the board scoring 1 in the second end., then forced Kim to a single in the third end. Flasch scored a single in the fourth end to extend lead to 2-1. After a blank end, Kim scored 2 in the sixth end to take the lead, then forced Flasch to a single in the seventh end to head to the final end tied with the hammer. Flasch fought the challenge, stealing the final end for the 4-3 and first major event title as skip.

In the semifinals, Flasch defeated John Epping (Toronto, ON) 7-3 and Kim defeated Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB) 6-1. Epping and Gunnlaugson earned $4,000CDN and 32.650 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Flasch defeated Brady Clark (Seattle, United States) 3-1, Kim defeated John Morris (Vernon, BC) 5-4, while Gunnlaugson defeated Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) 3-2 in an extra end and Epping defeated Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) 8-3. Carruthers, Morris, Clark and Bottcher earned $2,500CDN along with 23.047 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Flasch went 4-0 in the 24 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Flasch defeated Jason Ackerman (Regina, SK) 6-5, then won against Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) 5-3. Flasch defeated John Shuster (Duluth, USA) 7-2 to advance to an A Qualifier where they defeated Epping 7-4 to advance to the playoff round.
