Birchard/Gunnlaugson win Pacific Northwest Mixed Doubles Invitational
![]() Shannon Birchard/Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB) win the Pacific Northwest Mixed Doubles Invitational, defeating Jamie Sinclair/Korey Dropkin (Blaine, USA) 6-5 at the Seattle Granite Club in Seattle, United States, an ISS World Mixed Doubles Curling Tour event. Birchard/Gunnlaugson take home the $3,762CDN first place cheque while Sinclair/Dropkin receives $2,508CDN for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Birchard/Gunnlaugson scored 1 in the first end, then forced Sinclair/Dropkin to a single in the second end. Birchard/Gunnlaugson scored a single in the third end, then added a steal in the fourth end to lead 3-1. Sinclair/Dropkin scored 2 in the fifth end to tie the game at 3, then forced Birchard/Gunnlaugson to a single in the sixth end. Sinclair/Dropkin scored 2 in the seventh end to take the lead but Birchard/Gunnlaugson responded with their own pair in the eighth end for the 6-5 win. In the semifinals, Birchard/Gunnlaugson defeated Rui Wang/Dexin Ba (Harbin, China) 10-7 and Sinclair/Dropkin defeated Sherry Just/Ryan Deis (Saskatoon, SK) 8-1. Wang/Ba and Just/Deis earned $1,881CDN for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Birchard/Gunnlaugson defeated Hyeji Jang/KiJeong Lee (Uiseong, Korea) 9-2, Sinclair/Dropkin defeated Sarah Anderson/Sean Beighton (Seattle, WA) 7-6 in an extra end, while Wang/Ba defeated Monica Walker/Jason Smith (St. Paul, USA) 8-0 and Just/Deis defeated Nancy Martin/Catlin Schneider (Saskatoon, SK) 7-3. Jang/Lee, Martin/Schneider, Anderson/Beighton and Walker/Smith earned $1,254CDN for their quarterfinal finishes. Birchard/Gunnlaugson went 3-0 in the 16 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Birchard/Gunnlaugson defeated Maureen and Peter Stolt (Minneapolis, MN) 8-0, won against Bobbie Sauder/Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB) 7-6, and Wang/Ba 5-3 in the A-Qualifier to advance to the playoffs. --- ISS Ice, Sports & Solar is title sponsor of the ISS WORLD MIXED DOUBLES TOUR.
