Dave Collyer wins West City Honda Curling Classic
Dave Collyer (Belleville, ON) wins the West City Honda Mens Curling Classic, defeating Tyler Jones (Lindsay, ON) 8-3 at the Trenton Curling Club in Trenton, Canada. Collyer with Bryce Rowe at third, Ryan Ward and Bill Leitch on the front end take home the $1,100CDN first place cheque along with 9.018 world ranking points, while Jones receives $800CDN and 7.086 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Collyer scored 1 in the first end, then added a steal of 2 in the second end. Jones scored 2 in the third end, when Collyer responded in the fourth end scoring 3 to extend the lead to 6-2. Jones scored a single in the fifth end, with Collyer scoring 2 in the sixth end for early handshakes and the 8-3 win. In the semifinals, Collyer defeated Billy Woods (Dows Lake, ON) 4-3 and Jones defeated Greg Park (Oshawa, ON) 7-3. Woods and Park earned $400CDN and 5.475 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the B-Event, Josh Johnston (Toronto, ON) defeated Garth Mitchell (Trenton, ON) 8-0 to win $800CDN with Mitchell taking home $600CDN. Collyer went 2-1 in the 12 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Collyer defeated Park 7-6, losing their next game to Woods 7-6, then responded with a 5-4 win over Jerry Whyte (Trenton, ON) in their final qualifying round match. |
