Steve Mackey (Calgary, AB) finished 4-3 in the 27-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Mackey defeated
Japan's Yusuke Morozumi 6-3, then won 5-4 against Joel Jordison (Moose Jaw, SK) and 8-4 against Dave Manser (Lethbridge, AB). Mackey went on to lose 8-1 against Randy Ferbey (Edmonton, AB). Mackey responded with a 7-3 win over Warren Hassall (Lloydminster, SK). Mackey went on to lose 7-4 against Leon Moch (Medicine Hat, AB). Mackey lost 6-1 to Jordison in their final qualifying round match.
 
Mackey earned 2.750 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Mackey did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Mackey ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
