Ted Butler (Gatineau, PQ) qualified for the 2009 Challenge Casino Lac Leamy playoffs, dropping their quarterfinals match 7-6 against Neil Sinclair (Manotick, ON).
 
Butler finished 5-2 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Butler defeated Alex Smith (St. John's, NL) 5-3, then won 6-4 against Jeff McCrady (Ottawa, ON). Butler went on to lose 5-3 against Sinclair. Butler lost 6-5 to Tim Phillips (Sudbury, ON) where Butler responded with a 7-4 win over Chris Gardner (Arnprior, ON). Butler won 8-6 against Cory Heggestad (Barrie, ON), then won 6-5 against Quebec's Thierry Fournier in their final qualifying round match.
 
Butler earned 9.570 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Challenge Casino Lac Leamy. For week of the event schedule, Butler did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Butler ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
