Tim Phillips (Sudbury, ON) finished 4-3 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Phillips lost
7-5 to Martin Ferland (Quebec, PQ), then responded with a 6-5 win over Eric Harnden (Sault Ste Marie, ON). Phillips won 6-5 against Jake Higgs (Harrison, ON), then won 6-5 against Ted Butler (Gatineau, PQ) and 5-2 against Daniel Bedard (Lacolle, PQ). Phillips went on to lose 6-4 against Howard Rajala (Ottawa, ON). Phillips lost 7-3 to Serge Reid (Saguenay, PQ) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Phillips earned 3.190 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Phillips did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Phillips ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
