Rajala finished 5-1 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Rajala defeated Tom Wharry (Montreal, PQ) 5-4, then won 6-2 against Chris Gardner (Arnprior, ON) and 7-5 against Cory Heggestad (Barrie, ON). Rajala went on to lose 6-5 against Martin Ferland (Quebec, PQ). Rajala responded with a 7-3 win over Quebec's Michel Briand. Rajala won 6-4 against Tim Phillips (Sudbury, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
