Macsemchuk finished 3-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Macsemchuk defeated Minnesota's Brad Caldwell 7-3, then went on to lose 6-4 against Scott Madams (Winnipeg, MB). Macsemchuk responded with a 7-4 win over Lionel Locke (St. Paul, MN). Macsemchuk went on to lose 7-6 against Troy Schroeder (St. Paul, MN). Macsemchuk responded with a 8-1 win over Todd Birr (Mankato, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
