Johnston finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Johnston defeated Matt Mielke (Boston, MA) 7-4, then won 9-5 against Justin McBride (Orange County, CA) and 5-2 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN). Johnston went on to lose 6-5 against Ryan Lemke (Medford, WI). Johnston responded with a 7-3 win over Andy Jukich (Duluth, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Johnston earned 2.500 world rankings points for their Top 3 finish in the St. Paul Cash Spiel, moving up 45 spots the World Ranking Standings into 153rd place overall with 5.030 total points. Johnston ranks 89th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 2.500 points earned so far this season.
