Valerie Sweeting (Edmonton, AB) lost 5-4 to Ayumi Ogasawara (Sapporo, JPN) in the Final of the Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic, held October 2 - 5, 2014 at the Vernon Curling Club in Vernon, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Sweeting won 6-2 over Kelly Scott (Kelowna, BC) in the semifinals of the 2014 Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada; and won 8-1 over Corryn Brown (Kamloops, BC) in the quarterfinals.
 
Sweeting finished 4-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sweeting defeated Ogasawara 7-6, then went on to lose 6-5 against Mary-Anne Arsenault (Halifax, NS). Sweeting responded with a 7-2 win over Stephanie Prinse (Chilliwack, BC). Sweeting won 6-5 against Sarah Wark (Victoria, BC), then won 6-0 against Dailene Sivertson (Victoria , BC) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic, Sweeting take home 11.270 world rankings points along with the $5,900CDN prize, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 6th place overall with 143.068 total points. Sweeting ranks 7th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 24.080 points earned so far this season.
