Al Hackner (Thunder Bay, ON) lost 5-2 to Minnesota's Mike Farbelow in the Final of the Curl Mesabi Classic, held December 19 - 21, 2014 at the Curl Mesabi in Eveleth, United States. To advance to the championship game, Hackner won 6-3 over John Shuster (Duluth, MN) in the semifinals of the 2014 Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota, United States; and won 5-3 over Jake Vukich (Bemidji, MN) in the quarterfinals.
 
Hackner finished 5-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hackner defeated Jeff Isaacson (Eveleth, MN) 6-3, then won 8-3 against Shuster and 6-4 against Minnesota's Stephen Dropkin. Hackner won 7-4 against 's Mark Haluptzok, then won 8-2 against Ethan Meyers (Duluth, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Curl Mesabi Classic, Hackner take home 6.475 world rankings points along with the $4,633CDN prize, moving up 64 spots the World Ranking Standings into 112th place overall with 11.585 total points. Hackner ranks 66th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 11.585 points earned so far this season.
