In their opening game, Cotter defeated Adam Casey (Summerside, PEI) 8-4, then went on to lose 8-4 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK). Cotter lost 5-3 to Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, NONT) where Cotter responded with a 9-5 win over Glenn Howard (Toronto, ON). Cotter went on to lose 6-5 against Jean-Michel Menard (Gatineau, QC). Cotter lost 8-4 to Pat Simmons (Calgary, CAN). Cotter lost 7-2 to Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB). Cotter lost 8-3 to Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB). Cotter lost 8-7 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL). Cotter lost 9-8 to Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, NT) where Cotter responded with a 7-5 win over Mike Kennedy (Moncton, NB) in their final qualifying round match.

Cotter earned 9.501 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 15th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 5.292 after improving upon their best so far this season. Cotter ranks 13th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 222.416 points earned so far this season.
