To advance to the championship game, Murphy won 5-4 over Shawn Adams (Halifax, NS) in the semifinals of the 2016 Nova Scotia Tankard in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada;
 
Murphy finished 5-2 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murphy defeated Paul Dexter (Halifax, NS) 8-2, then won 8-6 against Jamie Danbrook (Halifax, NS) and 10-9 against Brent MacDougall (Halifax, NS). Murphy went on to lose 10-9 against Stuart Thompson (Halifax, NS). Murphy responded with a 6-5 win over Glen MacLeod (Halifax, NS). Murphy went on to lose 6-5 against Stevens. Murphy responded with a 7-5 win over Adams in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Nova Scotia Tankard Championship title, Murphy earned 13.650 world rankings points, moving up 3 spots the World Ranking Standings into 34th place overall with 137.831 total points. Murphy ranks 27th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 109.394 points earned so far this season.
