Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) won 9-4 over William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the DEKALB Superspiel, held November 18 - 21, 2016 at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Canada. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 4-3 over Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2016 DEKALB Superspiel in Morris, Manitoba, Canada; and won 8-1 over Kody Hartung (Saskatoon , SK) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 DEKALB Superspiel in Morris, Manitoba, Canada;

McEwen finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Coard Allard (Morris, MB) 8-2, then won 6-1 against Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI) and 8-3 against Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA). McEwen went on to lose 6-4 against Lyburn. McEwen responded with a 6-3 win over Todd Birr (Blaine, MN). McEwen won 3-2 against Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the DEKALB Superspiel Championship title, McEwen earned 46.260 world rankings points along with the $11,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 6th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 617.558 total points. McEwen ranks 11th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 159.637 points earned so far this season.
