To advance to the championship game, Murray won 7-4 over Bill Stopera (New York, NY) in the semifinals of the 2017 St. Paul Cash Spiel in St. Paul; and won 7-6 over Alex Leichter (Boston, MA) in the quarterfinals.
 
Murray finished 3-1 in the 22-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Murray lost 4-2 to Brady Clark (Seattle, WA), then responded with a 8-3 win over Nicholas Connolly (Seattle, WA). Murray won 7-5 against Josh Bahr (Bemidji, MN), then won 8-2 against Northern Ontario's Dylan Johnston in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the St. Paul Cash Spiel, Murray take home 18.286 world rankings points along with the $3,128CDN prize, moving up 205 spots the World Ranking Standings into 139th place overall with 20.868 total points. Murray ranks 59th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 18.286 points earned so far this season.
