To advance to the championship game, Gunnlaugson won 5-2 over William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2017 Mother Club Fall Curling Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and won 6-0 over Tanner Lott (Winnipeg Beach, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2017 Mother Club Fall Curling Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada;
 
Gunnlaugson finished 4-0 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gunnlaugson defeated Kelly Marnoch (Carberry, MB) 9-1, then won 6-5 against Dylan Johnston (Thunder Bay, NONT) and 8-1 against Manitoba's Jordan Smith. Gunnlaugson won 6-3 against Lott in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Mother Club Fall Curling Classic Championship title, Gunnlaugson earned 28.539 world rankings points along with the $2,500CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 14th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 264.743 total points. Gunnlaugson ranks 3rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 92.842 points earned so far this season.
