Kim finished 4-0 in the 25-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kim defeated De Jia Zou (Harbin, CHN) 6-2, then won 5-3 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) and 8-4 against Patric Mabergs (Skelleftea, SWE). Kim won 6-0 against Ontario's John Steski in their final qualifying round match.
