Matsumura finished 9-3 in the 13-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsumura defeated Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) 6-4, then won 9-6 against Qiang Zou (Beijing, CHN) and 9-6 against Magnus Ramsfjell (Oslo, NOR). Matsumura won 9-7 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED). Matsumura went on to lose 8-3 against Edin. Matsumura responded with a 8-7 win over SooHyuk Kim (Seoul, KOR). Matsumura won 6-4 against Marc Muskatewitz (Baden Baden, GER), then won 9-3 against Kevin Koe (Calgary, CAN) and 8-6 against Bruce Mouat (Stirling, SCO). Matsumura went on to lose 6-5 against De Cruz. Matsumura lost 10-4 to Shuster where Matsumura responded with a 7-5 win over Sergei Glukhov (Sochi, RUS) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their fourth place finish at the Pioneer Hi-Bred World Men's Curling Championship, Matsumura take home 45.909 world rankings points.
