Schwaller finished 3-1 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Schwaller lost 8-7 to Joel Retornaz (Pinerolo, ITA), then responded with a 5-3 win over Scott Dunnam (Philadelphia, PA). Schwaller won 7-6 against Jean-Sebastien Roy (Saguenay, QC), then won 8-2 against Frederic Lawton (Montreal, QC) in their final qualifying round match.
