Whyte finished 3-2 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Whyte lost 6-4 to Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB), then responded with a 8-1 win over Glen Jackson (Victoria, BC). Whyte went on to lose 7-2 against Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB). Whyte responded with a 5-4 win over Matt Dunstone (Regina, SK). Whyte won 8-7 against Daniel Wenzek (New Westminster, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
