McEwen finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated James Craik (Forfar, SCO) 4-2, then won 5-2 against Magnus Ramsfjell (Trondheim, NOR) and 8-1 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED). McEwen won 7-2 against Luca Rizzolli (Cembra, ITA). McEwen went on to lose 5-2 against Peter De Cruz (Geneva, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.
