De Cruz finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, De Cruz lost 7-4 to Mattia Giovanella (Trentino, ITA), then responded with a 7-5 win over Christian Heinimann (Basel, SUI). De Cruz won 6-1 against Andrin Schnider (Schauffhausen, SUI), then won 5-4 against Sixten Totzek (Munich, GER) and 4-2 against Steffen Walstad (Oslo, NOR) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Swiss Cup Basel Championship title, De Cruz earned 51.200 world rankings points along with the $12,045CDN first prize cheque, moving up 5 spots the World Ranking Standings into 6th place overall with 210.944 total points.
