Carey finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carey defeated Maria Bushell (Calgary, AB) 7-5, then went on to lose 9-4 against Marla Mallett (Vancouver, BC). Carey responded with a 6-3 win over Deanne Nichol (Edmonton, AB). Carey won 5-0 against Nadine Chyz (Calgary, AB), then won 8-4 against Kelley Law (New Westminster, CAN). Carey went on to lose 5-4 against Scotland's Eve Muirhead. Carey responded with a 8-4 win over Kirsten Fox (New Westminster, BC) in their final qualifying round match.
