To advance to the championship game, Sweeting won 6-3 over Susan O'Connor (Calgary, AB) in the semifinals of the 2014 HDF Insurance Shoot-Out in Edmonton, Alberta; and won 5-4 over Alina Paetz (Baden Regio, SUI) in the quarterfinals.
 
Sweeting finished 5-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sweeting defeated Leslie Rogers (Edmonton, AB) 7-1, then won 7-6 against Kristie Moore (Edmonton, AB) and 8-5 against Brenda Doroshuk (Edmonton, AB). Sweeting won 6-4 against Chantelle Eberle (Regina, SK), then won 4-3 against Cissi Ostlund (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the HDF Insurance Shoot-Out, Sweeting take home 12.810 world rankings points along with the $4,000CDN prize, moving up 1 spots the World Ranking Standings into 6th place overall with 131.798 total points. Sweeting ranks 5th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 12.810 points earned so far this season.
