Kyle Smith (Perth, SCO) lost 6-1 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in the Final of the Mercure Perth Masters, held January 8 - 11, 2015 in Perth, Scotland. To advance to the championship game, Smith won 7-5 over Aku Kauste (Helsinki, FIN) in the semifinals of the 2015 Mercure Perth Masters in Perth, Scotland; and won 6-5 over Bruce Mouat (Edinburgh, SCO) in the quarterfinals.
Smith finished 4-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Smith defeated Evgeniy Arkhipov (Moscow, RUS) 8-2, then went on to lose 7-4 against Jialiang Zang (Harbin, CHN). Smith lost 6-5 to Scotland's Ross McCleary where Smith responded with a 6-1 win over Stuart Taylor (Forfar, SCO). Smith won 9-1 against Andrey Drozdov (Moscow, RUS), then won 6-3 against David Edwards (Aberdeen, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Mercure Perth Masters, Smith take home 14.665 world rankings points along with the $6,720CDN prize, moving up 19 spots the World Ranking Standings into 33rd place overall with 49.363 total points. Smith ranks 42nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 21.130 points earned so far this season.
