Ryuji Shibatani (Kitami, JPN) needed a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs, Shibatani finished 4-4 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shibatani defeated Naoki Iwanaga (Tokyo, JPN) 8-2, then won 8-3 against Hironori Yoshioka (Okayama, JPN). Shibatani went on to lose 7-5 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Shibatani responded with a 7-4 win over Kazuto Funaki (Aomori, JPN). Shibatani went on to lose 7-6 against Japan's Ryo Ogihara. Shibatani lost 10-7 to Japan's Doi Homaretoru where Shibatani responded with a 6-5 win over Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN). Shibatani went on to lose 6-5 against Kouji Tsuruga (Kitami, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Shibatani earned 1.500 world rankings points for their Top 4 finish in the Japan Curling Championships, moving up 321 spots the World Ranking Standings into 302nd place overall with 1.500 total points. Shibatani ranks 249th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 1.500 points earned so far this season.
