Reid Carruthers (Winnipeg, MB) lost 5-4 to Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in the Final of the Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic, held October 7 - 10, 2016 at the Crestwood Curling Club in Edmonton, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Carruthers won 3-2 over Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) in the semifinals of the 2016 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and won 6-4 over Charley Thomas (Edmonton, AB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;

Carruthers finished 3-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Carruthers defeated Thomas Scoffin (Edmonton, AB) 6-1, then won 5-4 against Dean Joanisse (Maple Ridge, BC). Carruthers went on to lose 7-2 against Brendan Bottcher (Edmonton, AB). Carruthers responded with a 9-4 win over SooHyuk Kim (Gangwon, KOR) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the Direct Horizontal Drilling Fall Classic, Carruthers take home 47.180 world rankings points along with the $9,000CDN prize, moving up 2 spots the World Ranking Standings into 5th place overall with 480.150 total points. Carruthers ranks 13th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 82.306 points earned so far this season.
