Junpei Kanda (Tokyo, JPN) lost 6-2 to Yuta Matsumura (Sapporo, JPN) in the Final of the ZEN-NOH Japan Curling Championships, held February 12 - 17, 2019 in Sapporo, Japan. To advance to the championship game, Kanda won 8-7 over Masaki Iwai (Sapporo, JPN) in the semifinals of the 2019 ZEN-NOH Japan Curling Championships in Sapporo, Japan;
 
Kanda finished 5-3 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kanda lost 6-3 to Matsumura, then responded with a 6-5 win over Hayato Matsumura (Karuizawa, JPN). Kanda won 13-1 against Yasuhiro Morita (Kyoto, JPN), then won 9-3 against Juon Ishimura (Aomori, JPN) and 8-6 against Tomonori Matsuzawa (Sapporo, JPN). Kanda went on to lose 6-4 against Daiki Shikano (Sapporo, JPN). Kanda responded with a 10-4 win over Naomasa Takeda (Sapporo, JPN). Kanda went on to lose 9-6 against Iwai in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the ZEN-NOH Japan Curling Championships, Kanda take home 15.239 world rankings points, moving up 430 spots the World Ranking Standings into 191st place overall with 15.239 total points. Kanda ranks 191st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 15.239 points earned so far this season.
