In their opening game, Ruohonen defeated Bob Leclair (Tempe, AZ) 6-4, then won 7-1 against Mike Siggins (Tempe, AZ) and 9-3 against Jeff Richard (Kelowna, BC). Ruohonen won 7-2 against Sean Geall (New Westminster, BC), then won 7-6 against Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
