Thompson finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thompson defeated Trent Skanes (St. John's, NL) 7-2, then won 6-2 against Asselin and 7-3 against Joel Retornaz (Pinerolo, ITA) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic Championship title, Thompson earned 34.223 world rankings points along with the $7,500CDN first prize cheque.
