Varnes responded with a 7-2 win over Sherry Anderson (Saskatoon, SK). Varnes went on to lose 7-4 against Raphaela Keiser (St. Moritz, SUI) in their final qualifying round match.

Varnes earned 5.250 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 16 spots the World Ranking Standings into 123rd place overall with 13.692 total points. Varnes ranks 80th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 10.313 points earned so far this season.
