CHAMPION: Koana/Aoki Wins Mixed Doubles Super Series

Tori Koana/Go Aoki (Karuizawa, JPN) won 7-5 over Chiaki Matsumura/Yasumasa Tanida (Nagano/Hokkaido, JPN) in the Final of the Mixed Doubles Super Series - Oakville, held December 28 - 31 at the Oakville Curling Club in Oakville, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Koana/Aoki won 8-2 over Alina Paetz/Sven Michel (Zurich, SUI) in the semifinals of the Mixed Doubles Super Series - Oakville in Oakville, Ontario, Canada; and won 7-5 over Lisa Weagle/John Epping (Toronto, ON) in the quarterfinals. of the Mixed Doubles Super Series - Oakville in Oakville, Ontario, Canada;

Koana/Aoki finished 5-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Koana/Aoki defeated Kristin Moen Skaslien/Magnus Nedregotten (Oslo, NOR) 10-4, then won 8-1 against Laura Walker/Kirk Muyres (Edmonton, AB) and 9-3 against Lauren Wasylkiw/Shane Konings (Stouffville, ON). Koana/Aoki won 7-3 against Jiyoon Kim/ByeongJin Jeong (Seoul, KOR), then won 11-5 against Casandra Spruit/Geoff Spruit (Winchester, ON) in their final qualifying round match.

For winning the Mixed Doubles Super Series - Oakville Championship title, Koana/Aoki earned 52.500 world rankings points along with the $6,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 806th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 50.782 after improving upon their best so far this season. Koana/Aoki ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 120.000 points earned so far this season.
