To advance to the championship game, Sato won 5-2 over Fukuhiro Ohno (Sapporo, JPN) in the semifinals of the ADVICS Cup in Kitami, Japan, Japan; and won 7-1 over Takumi Maeda (Kitami, JPN) in the quarterfinals. of the ADVICS Cup in Kitami, Japan, Japan;
Sato finished 3-2 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Sato lost 9-3 to Ohno, then responded with a 8-2 win over Shunta Kobayashi (Sapporo, JPN). Sato won 6-1 against Ryo Aoki (Sapporo, JPN). Sato went on to lose 4-3 against Abe. Sato responded with a 9-3 win over Hiroyuki Honda (Kitami, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the ADVICS Cup, Sato take home 11.000 world rankings points along with the $4,646CDN prize. For week 5 of the event schedule, Sato did not improve upon their best events, dropping from 39th to 40th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 92.000 total points. Sato ranks 12th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 25.750 points earned so far this season.
