Casey Scheidegger wins HDF Insurance Shoot-Out


Casey Scheidegger (Lethbridge, Alberta) wins the HDF Insurance Shoot-Out, defeating Alina Kovaleva (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) 6-4 at the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton, Canada. Scheideger take home the $8,000CDN first place cheque along with 41.850 world ranking points, while Kovaleva receives $5,000CDN and 30.690 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Kovaleva scored 1 in the first end, when Scheidegger responded in the second end scoring 2. Kovaleva scored 2 in the third end, then forced Scheidegger to a single in the fourth end to hold hammer at the break in a tie game. Scheidegger tuned the game around with a steal l in the fifth end, then forced Kovaleva to a single in the sixth end after which Scheidegger scored 2 in the seventh end to lead 6-4 into the final end where they ran the Russian team out of stones for the win.

In the semifinals, Scheidegger defeated Kelsey Rocque (Edmonton, Albera) 7-6 in an extra end and Kovaleva defeated Robyn Silvernagle (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) 7-5. Silvernagle and Rocque earned $3,000CDN and 23.715 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Scheidegger defeated Chelsea Carey (Edmonton, Alberta) 8-6, and Kovaleva defeated Sherry Anderson (Saskatoon, SK) 5-4. Carey and Anderson earned $2,000CDN along with 16.740 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.
