Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) won 8-7 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the Final of the Swiss Cup Basel, held October 2 - 5, 2009 in Basel, Switzerland. To advance to the championship game, Ulsrud won 10-3 over Stefan Karnusian (St. Moritz, SUI) in the semifinals of the 2009 Swiss Cup Basel in Basel, Switzerland; and won 7-3 over Ulrik Schmidt (Copenhagen, DEN) in the quarterfinals. of the 2009 Swiss Cup Basel in Basel, Switzerland;
 
Ulsrud finished 4-0 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ulsrud defeated Switzerland's Kevin Froidevaux 4-3, then won 10-3 against Sweden's Per Carlsen and 6-4 against Thomas Loevold (Oslo, NOR). Ulsrud won 4-3 against Andy Kapp (Fuessen, GER) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Swiss Cup Basel Championship title, Ulsrud earned 29.440 world rankings points along with the $13,510CDN first prize cheque. For week of the event schedule, Ulsrud did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points.
