Shuster finished 3-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Shuster defeated Scott Comfort (Wadena, SK) 7-3, then won 4-1 against Brady Clark (Seattle, WA) and 6-2 against Dominik Maerki (Bern, SUI). Shuster went on to lose 8-2 against Thomas in their final qualifying round match.
