William Lyburn (Winnipeg, MB) lost 7-2 to Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB) in the Final of the ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling, held December 30 - January 2, 2017 at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, United States. To advance to the championship game, Lyburn won 7-6 over Rui Liu (HARBIN, CHN) in the semifinals of the 2016 ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling in Blaine, Minnesota, United States; and won 7-3 over Craig Brown (Blaine, MN) in the quarterfinals.
 
Lyburn finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Lyburn defeated Trevor Bonot (Thunder Bay, ON) 9-4, then won 7-6 against Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) and 7-6 against Liu in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling, Lyburn take home 21.533 world rankings points along with the $4,705CDN prize, remaining in 22nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 18.718 after improving upon their best so far this season. Lyburn ranks 23rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 119.809 points earned so far this season.
