Advancing directly to the semifinals, Kim won 7-6 over Rich Ruohonen (Chaska, USA) to advance to the championship game. of the 2018 ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling in Blaine, Minnesota, United States;
Kim finished 4-0 in the 11-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kim defeated Brandon Corbett (Rochester, NY) 6-5, then won 7-5 against Sean Beighton (Madison, WI) and 5-4 against Todd Birr (Blaine, MN). Kim won 7-4 against Jason Smith (Blaine, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the ASHAM U.S. Open of Curling Championship title, Kim earned 19.001 world rankings points along with the $5,971CDN first prize cheque. For week 20 of the event schedule, Kim did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Kim ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
