Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) finished 5-4 in the 10-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ulsrud lost 10-4 to Ross Paterson (Stirling, SCO), then responded with a 6-2 win over Marc Muskatewitz (Fuessen, GER). Ulsrud went on to lose 1-0 against Andrew Reed (Kent, ENG). Ulsrud responded with a 8-7 win over Mikkel Krause (Hvidovre, DEN). Ulsrud went on to lose 8-7 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA). Ulsrud responded with a 9-4 win over Yannick Schwaller (Bern, SUI). Ulsrud went on to lose 7-2 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Ulsrud responded with a 6-5 win over Sergei Glukhov (Moscow, RUS). Ulsrud won 5-4 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED) in their final qualifying round match.

Ulsrud earned 15.978 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, remaining in 20th place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 226.310 total points. Ulsrud ranks 24th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 110.789 points earned so far this season.
