Masalmeh responded with a 11-3 win over Haggai Odhiambo Ogak (Nairobi, KEN). Masalmeh went on to lose 11-3 against Ian Robertson (Kingston, JAM). Masalmeh lost 9-3 to Harold Woods (Accra, NGR). Masalmeh lost 10-7 to Jonathan Vargas (San Juan, PR). Masalmeh lost 9-2 to Abylay Zhuzbay (Almaty, KAZ) where Masalmeh responded with a 9-5 win over Marcelo Cabral de Mello (Sao Paolo, BRA). Masalmeh went on to lose 12-5 against P.N. Raju (Hyderabad, IN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Masalmeh earned 0.563 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins.
