In their opening game, Wright defeated Dave Hufman (Fairbanks, AK) 7-3, then went on to lose 6-5 against Larry Sharp (Rice Lake, WI). Wright lost 7-5 to Dave Jensen (Bismarck, ND) where Wright responded with a 7-6 win over Ron Birklid (Fairbanks, AK). Wright went on to lose 7-5 against David Russell (La Crosse, WI) in their final qualifying round match.
