Irwin finished 4-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Irwin lost 8-7 to Don Nelson (Winnipeg, MB), then responded with a 9-2 win over Justin Richter (Beausejour, MB). Irwin won 8-6 against William Kuran (Winnipeg, MB), then won 6-4 against Adam Freilich (Jerusalem, ISR) and 6-2 against Scott Ramsay (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match.
