Shinya Abe (Sapporo, JPN) finished 5-3 in the 9-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Abe defeated Yasumoto Natsuizaka (Karuizawa, JPN) 8-4, then won 9-3 against Gaku Suzuki (Sapporo, JPN). Abe went on to lose 8-2 against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, JPN). Abe responded with a 10-1 win over Japan's Ryo Wakabayashi. Abe went on to lose 8-7 against Japan's Junpei Kanda. Abe responded with a 11-3 win over Minoru Kusaka (Aomori, JPN). Abe went on to lose 7-6 against Japan's Ryo Ogihara. Abe responded with a 11-3 win over Kanya Shimizun (Furano, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.

Abe earned 8.479 world rankings points for their Top 4 finish in the Japan Curling Championships, moving up 44 spots the World Ranking Standings into 162nd place overall with 22.519 total points. Abe ranks 189th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 11.519 points earned so far this season.
