To advance to the championship game, Nichols won 7-3 over John Epping (Toronto, ON) in the semifinals of the 2016 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada; and won 7-6 over Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada;

Nichols finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Nichols defeated Chad Allen (Brantford, ON) 8-5, then won 6-3 against Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, NED) and 6-5 against Jason Gunnlaugson (Winnipeg, MB). Nichols went on to lose 7-4 against Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE). Nichols responded with a 7-3 win over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK) in their final qualifying round match.

With their runner-up finish at the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic, Nichols take home 60.930 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN prize, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 616.153 total points. Nichols ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 88.510 points earned so far this season.
