To advance to the championship game, Dunstone won 6-4 over Daley Peters (Winnipeg, MB) in the semifinals of the 2016 The Sunova Spiel at East St. Paul in Winnipeg, Manitoba; and won 7-4 over William Kuran (Winnipeg, MB) in the quarterfinals.
 
Dunstone finished 3-0 in the 16-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Dunstone defeated Randal Thomas (Winnipeg, MB) 8-6, then won 5-2 against Taylor McIntyre (Winnipeg, MB) and 5-2 against Bohn in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the The Sunova Spiel at East St. Paul Championship title, Dunstone earned 22.518 world rankings points along with the $2,600CDN first prize cheque. Dunstone move up 2 spots after posting a net gain of 21.139 points improving upon their best results so far this season, ranking 24th overall with 213.210 total points on the World Ranking Standings.
