Abylay Zhuzbay (Almaty, KAZ) lost 9-3 to Marc Pfister (Manilla, PHI) in the Final of the Pan-Continental Championships -- B-Division, held October 27 - November 2 in Lacombe, Alberta. To advance to the championship game, Zhuzbay won 10-3 over Ian Robertson (Kingston, JAM) in the semifinals
Zhuzbay finished 8-2 in the 11-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Zhuzbay lost 9-8 to Robertson, then responded with a 12-3 win over Harold Woods (Accra, NGR). Zhuzbay won 7-2 against Marcelo Cabral de Mello (Sao Paolo, BRA), then won 11-3 against Jonathan Vargas (San Juan, PR) and 7-6 against Jason Chang (Hong Kong, HKG). Zhuzbay won 10-5 against P.N. Raju (Hyderabad, IN), then won 17-0 against Haggai Odhiambo Ogak (Nairobi, KEN) and 9-2 against Amar Masalmeh (Riyadh, KSA). Zhuzbay won 9-4 against Nasser Alyafei (Doha, QAT). Zhuzbay went on to lose 6-5 against Pfister in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the Pan-Continental Championships -- B-Division, Zhuzbay take home 2.750 world rankings points. For week 14 of the event schedule, Zhuzbay did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Zhuzbay ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
