To advance to the championship game, Gardner won 7-4 over Ontario's John Epping in the semifinals of the 2011 StuSells Toronto Tankard in Toronto, Ontario; and won 6-1 over Ontario's Dale Matchett in the quarterfinals. of the 2011 StuSells Toronto Tankard in Toronto, Ontario;
 
Gardner finished 4-1 in the 20-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gardner lost 7-2 to Ontario's Peter Corner, then responded with a 9-4 win over Brian Damon (Schenectady, NY). Gardner won 5-4 against Ontario's Mike Anderson, then won 7-0 against Ontario's Peter Corner and 8-5 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the StuSells Toronto Tankard Championship title, Gardner earned 26.220 world rankings points along with the $9,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 11 spots the World Ranking Standings into 20th place overall with 76.220 total points. Gardner ranks 8th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 37.350 points earned so far this season.
